Minnesota Memories of Catan
When Zach and I went to Minnesota last February, we spent our down time playing board games and listening to records with Ben, Angela and Corbin.
Ben taught us his favorite game, Settlers of Catan. We quickly learned that Ben is a master strategist of the game—always ten moves ahead of everyone at the table and he pretty much never loses. (One of his winning hands is shown above.)
Zach was immediately addicted and his competitive nature surfaced. He was determined to beat Ben before our trip ended. Corbin, who is a rather agile strategist himself, was reluctant to play, claiming that he hated losing to Ben all of the time. Zach did not win, but Corbin did on the last night of our trip. (There may or may not have been a conspiracy involved, to overthrow Ben.)
But more importantly, I was reminded of how much I enjoy these quieter moments of life, where we are not distracted by a television or other electronics we own and are simply enjoying the company of the people that we are with. These are the kind of memories that I will hold dearest.
